Murrells Inlet is a waterfront community centered around seafood, boating and the salt marshes of the Grand Strand. Located south of Myrtle Beach and north of Pawleys Island, it combines a longstanding fishing-village identity with growing residential and commercial development.
The MarshWalk is the community’s best-known destination, connecting restaurants and live-music venues along the waterfront. Marinas, charter boats and public access points reflect the area’s connection to fishing and boating. Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park are nearby, providing trails, gardens, wildlife habitat and beach access.
Housing includes established neighborhoods, raised coastal homes, condominiums, townhomes, golf communities and newer subdivisions. Properties may be located in Georgetown County or Horry County, and the Murrells Inlet mailing area extends beyond the waterfront district. Taxes, utilities, services and regulations can therefore vary by address.
Waterfront and creekfront buyers should evaluate tides, dock permits, water depth, bulkheads, flood zones and insurance. A view of the marsh does not always mean direct navigable access, and conditions may change considerably between high and low tide.
Short-term-rental rules depend on jurisdiction, zoning and HOA restrictions. Buyers considering rental income should verify permitted use, license requirements and realistic operating expenses before purchasing. Condominium buyers should also review master insurance, reserves, assessments and building maintenance.
Highway 17 Business and Bypass connect Murrells Inlet with the rest of the Grand Strand, but traffic increases during tourism season and around major dining areas. Location relative to the bridges, hospitals, beaches and daily shopping can have a meaningful impact on convenience.
Murrells Inlet offers access to water, restaurants and outdoor recreation without the same urban scale as Myrtle Beach. Choosing the right property requires attention to county boundaries, flood exposure, rental rules and the specific lifestyle each section provides.
